Dim: A Light in the Dark features seven levels, each level contains multiple puzzle sections, enemies and mechanics for the player to explore. The player plays as an energy being whose mission is to destroy a massive factory that is destroying the planet.
I had the opportunity to work on multiple of the levels in this game at various stages of the development process. For the puzzles in the game, it was important to give the player a safe space so that they can analyze the puzzle problem. The puzzles themselves were then designed to fit on one screen. This meant that the player could keep a better overview due to the section not being out of sight.
Lighting was mainly used for player direction, since the factory is a very dark and cold place, the player brings his own light and energy with him. The player learns that his orange light is safe, useful and good while the machinery used blue light which was associated with danger, enemies and evil.
